Kathleen specializes in the treatment of orofacial myofunctional disorders. These disorders can include; thumb and finger sucking habits, a habit of resting with lips apart, low and forward resting posture of the tongue (tongue thrust) and habitual mouth breathing.
The Practice
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is a series of weekly and bi-weekly exercises which serve to restore proper function and balance to the tongue, lips and face. The therapy addresses unhealthy habits such as mouth breathing and oral habits (thumb-sucking). Optimal tongue function and posture helps promote proper breathing and stabilizes the orthodontic outcome. The intensive phase of therapy is 8 weeks with monthly and bi-monthly maintenance visits up to one year.
Mission
The mission at Hudson Line Orofacial Myology is to build healthy habits for life using a team approach. This is achieved through the elimination of non-nutritive sucking habits, the restoration of nasal breathing and the habituation and strengthening of the face, tongue and lips. Orofacial Myologists work closely with other professionals such as orthodontists, pediatricians, and Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists.
